What Ofcom predicted speeds mean

The checker labels a prediction as Basic, Superfast, or Ultrafast. That label is not a confirmed Openreach, CityFibre, or other line.

After you choose the property, the checker shows an Ofcom predicted speed band. The words on that result have a specific meaning, and a limit.

The three labels

Basic is the band used where full fibre is not the predicted product. Superfast is the band for the shared product up to 80 Mbps. Ultrafast is the band for full fibre, including symmetrical full fibre.

The checker can also name a network that might deliver that speed, such as Openreach or CityFibre. That sentence is a possibility. It is not an order.

What it is not

The prediction does not confirm that the product is available, and it does not reserve an install date. Broadbent Network still confirms the network before install.

If there is no prediction, the postcode can still be taken forward. The full fibre, Superfast, Standard, and leased line pages are the places to choose a product while that confirmation is made.

Questions

Is Ultrafast the same as full fibre?

Ultrafast is the predicted band for full fibre. The network is still confirmed before install.

What if the checker has no prediction?

The postcode can still be used. Choose from the full fibre, Superfast, Standard, or leased line pages, and the network is confirmed before install.
