What symmetrical full fibre means

Symmetrical full fibre has the same download and upload speed, and it includes a free static IPv4 address.

On a symmetrical circuit the upload speed matches the download speed. That is the difference from the Openreach full fibre plans that publish a lower upload.

Same speed both ways

A symmetrical plan is sold where the network supports it. Freedom Fibre, CityFibre, Trooli, MS3, ITS, and Hyperoptic products on the full fibre page are symmetrical: 110 Mbps is 110 Mbps in both directions, and the same pattern holds for the faster tiers.

Openreach full fibre plans on the same page are usually asymmetric. An 80/20 plan is 80 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up. A 1000/115 plan is 1000 Mbps down and 115 Mbps up. The speed line on the plan shows both numbers.

What else is included

Symmetrical full fibre includes a free static IPv4 address, assigned after the circuit is live. Other broadband products use a dynamic address unless you ask for a static IP.

The router still follows the download speed. Up to 1 Gbps uses the EX230V. Faster than 1 Gbps uses the EX820V.

Questions

Is every full fibre plan symmetrical?

No. Symmetrical plans match upload to download. Openreach full fibre plans usually have a lower upload, shown on the plan as a pair such as 80/20.

Does symmetrical full fibre include a static IP?

Yes. A free static IPv4 address is included, and it is assigned after the circuit is live.
